Raising teenagers – the ultimate guide
Dedicated to SENCOs, written for schools, parents, carers…... and teenagers!
I’ve worked in schools and with young people for the last twenty years as a counsellor and have become increasingly concerned about the large number of teenagers who are struggling, not just to deal with school, but often with life in general.
I know that many schools are being increasingly overwhelmed by the demands of students exhibiting a wide range of difficulties, including issues with confidence, anxiety, depression as well as self-harm, eating disorders, addictions and even suicidal thoughts.
Many parents and teachers also find it difficult to deal not only with the basic issues, but are worried too about wider issues, some of which relate to the internet and social media, that are developing and changing constantly. They also struggle to deal with teenagers growing up in a different world and with different expectations to their own teenage years. All of you have one thing in common, you want our young people to flourish, achieve and experience happy and fulfilled lives.
Support services outside school such as CAMHS, are under severe pressure and cannot always offer a prompt response. As a result, parents and school staff are often at a loss to know how to improve the support and guidance that they give to their teenagers, and indeed how best to access support for themselves.
To help address this problem I have co-written a book which not only provides a wealth of advice on building teenage confidence, resilience and happiness, but also provides a wide range of information on key issues that teenagers may face in today’s world. These latter sections provide a useful insight into the teenage world for anyone involved in the pastoral care of teenagers and includes sections on all of the major mental disorders that are currently affecting many teenagers.
Used as an ongoing three-part resource, it offers an information section, an advice section and a reference section. It is not meant to be prescriptive and can be used for guidance throughout the pre-teen, teenage and young adult years.
The book is usually available from Amazon in a kindle version at £6.99 or as a paperback for £14.99. ISBN 978-0-244-75985-8. Click here for details.

Dear Parent / Guardian,
Every year we ask Year 10 and 11 students to complete a student voice survey. The results support the English Department plan for the year ahead and refine and revise our delivery of the English Language and Literature GCSEs.
All students have been sent a link to their John Taylor email address. Please could you encourage for your son/daughter to complete the survey by Wednesday 10th July, it's very quick and easy.
Please see the link below for the Y10 Borneo expedition launch letter.
Just a reminder that all Y10 students will have an information assembly on Monday 1st July, followed by a non-committal parent/carer information evening at 6:30pm on Wednesday 10th July. All are welcome to find out more or ask any questions.
To register your attendance or if you are unable to attend but still wish to receive the information please visit:
