Leave of Absence Letter
By way of reminder, school will be closing at 12:30pm on Friday 19th July 2019. We have arranged for the school buses to collect pupils, from school, at this time. If your child does not use school transport, please make alternative arrangements for them to be collected.
Just a reminder that there are three Inset days at the start of next term (2nd, 3rd, 4th Sept - Staff only will be in school)
Thursday 5th Sept - Students in Years 7 to 11 + Y13 House Leaders only, return to school.
Friday 6th Sept - Y12 and Y13 students return to school.
We have been made aware of a new trend on social media relating to young people holding their breath for an extended period of time. We would like to ask parents to talk to their children about the dangers of this trend and potential health implications.
We have launched our Summer Reading Challenge in school this week to encourage our students to continue reading over the holidays. Students are being challenged to read six books over the holiday, to write reviews on the Reading Cloud via the school website and enter our prize draw by 11th September. Details are below. It is important for your child to continue to read over the summer holidays and we allow students to borrow extra items over the break. If your child uses the public library they can also enter their Summer Reading Challenge, Mission YTF which is based around Space to celebrate 50 years of the first Moon Landing. Happy reading!
Your son/daughter will be coming home with a letter from the PE department explaining off-site activities for part of the Y10 and Y11 PE curriculum for next academic year.
The activity will be either:
Golf at Branston Golf Club
Martial Arts/Fitness at Dan Berry's Studio, Alrewas
Pupils will be told which activity they are doing. The activities start, for some, on the second week back in September. Please could payment of £22.50 be made via ParentPay for the 6-week course. It is vitally important this is paid prior to your son/daughter going off-site. Pupils in Y10 will have the opportunity to do the other activity when they are in Y11 and payment will be requested at that time.
Year 9 will be starting their GCSEs after summer and the English Department would like to help students get organised for their English Language and Literature GCSE.
Summer Bridging Task for English
To encourage students to engage early with their studies, we have linked below a summer task for them to complete. Teachers will be explaining the task in full and a hard copy will be provided to all students.
Students will be expected to submit the completed tasks in the first week back after summer to their English teacher(s).
Set Texts and Revision Guides:
Whilst there is no expectation for students to purchase their own copy of the set texts, students will be able to make notes and annotate their own texts which will in turn support their revision.
A list of suggested revision guides is on the link below. The guides listed are suggestions only: students may find a study guide by a different publishing company more suitable to their learning style. When students search for the texts listed, other recommendations will appear on Amazon. Students need to make sure that the guide they order is for the AQA 9-1 GCSE.
The texts studied in September are :
English Literature: 'An Inspector Calls'
English Literature: Power and Conflict Poetry
English Language Paper One
To support the present Year 10 prepare for their final year of GCSEs, there is a link below to some suggested revision guides and a list of the set texts.
