Weekly Information - Thursday 24th June 2021
Dear Parent / Carer,
Do you have some time to spare to keep the PTA going? The PTA still needs a new Chair if it is to continue. Over the years, the PTA has been instrumental in raising money for school, providing funds toward covered outdoor seating, PE equipment, Chromebooks, new chopping boards, and theatre equipment as well as providing donations for the presentation evenings. We have provided refreshments for school concerts, organised social activities like quiz nights, run used uniform sales and the 50/50 club. PTA meetings have also provided a valuable opportunity for parents to learn more about school and receive key information from the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team on topics such as the Behaviour Policy, Teaching and Learning Policy, the Research School, Vision and Values, Remote Learning and School Improvement Priorities.
Unfortunately, over the last couple of years, attendance at meetings and interest in the PTA has declined and the pandemic has limited the number of events we have been able to organise. Now that the last of our children are leaving JTHS this year, Gill and I are stepping down as Chair and Vice Chair, though we are more than happy to shadow and support a new Chair if anyone is willing to take on this role.
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact me at [email protected] or come along to the next meeting which will be held at 7pm on Monday 28th June on Teams.

We hope to see you on Monday 28th.

Childline and the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) have made available a brand new tool so that children and young people can report a nude image or video of themselves in order that the IWF can take steps to remove it from the Internet. The tool has been under trial for about a year but is now available to all as of 22nd June.
Importantly, a young person can even report an image/video that hasn't yet been uploaded and shared. The IWF will assign a 'hash' to prevent the image being uploaded by anyone.
This is an incredibly positive step forward. We are sharing this information to support parents and students. More information from the IWF can be found HERE and the Childline reporting tool, Report Remove, can be found HERE.
Given the range of concerns that parents can have in relation to their child's use of social media, Internet Matters have put together a useful resource page on their site with lots of advice and tips HERE.
Dear Parent/Carer,
As we move into the last few weeks before the summer break, we would like to try and get together another Food Bank collection to deliver at the end of term. We are encouraging students to bring some items in, but ultimately, we know this will likely come down to you. So, if you are willing to donate any items it would be greatly appreciated! Some items that are key to a food parcel are rice, pasta, cereal (own brand can be under £1), tinned fruit, biscuits, soup, pasta sauce and any long-life items. I know that any donations are greatly appreciated! These can be handed in to their form tutors. Thank you in advance with this. As a school we have been overwhelmed with the general generosity of spirit, kindness and support the students have shown each other and the wider school community, particularly in the difficult circumstances that we have endured. I could not be prouder of them.

Dear Parent/Carer,
On Friday 25th, Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th June we have our September intake Y6 students attending for their induction days. On these days, can you please remind your child that:
- They need to enter school site in the morning via the Palmer Close entrance to school, leaving the Training Centre entrance for Y6 pupils only.
- If they are dropped off by parents, they will need to avoid being dropped off at the training centre so they do not have to cross over the school drive where buses will be coming and going.
- On entering the school site, they need to make their way down the side of the main school building, not under the bridge.
- Before Registration they can use the far side of the tennis courts closest to the Science mobiles. The tennis court closest to the hall will be for Y6 only.
