Weekly information - Wednesday 20th March
For parents' information, the following newsletter has been forwarded to students via email.
Would parents please encourage their children who represent a sport at County level or above, to let a member of the PE Department know about their success so they can be placed on the Sporting Honours Display Board.
Thank you. JTHS PE Department.
Our next PTA Meeting will be held in the Training Centre, next to the school, at 7pm on Wednesday, 27th March. Everyone is welcome.
How can you help?
- Become involved with planning meetings for future fund-raising events.
- Help with events, quiz nights, comedy night, raffles etc in whatever capacity you can.
- Attend PTA/Information evenings.
- Parents are encouraged to help as much as they feel able to.
The role of the PTA is to raise funds to enable school to purchase 'extras' to enhance our children's education. It's a great way to meet new parents and get involved with the school. PTA meetings are held once every half term. The Head of School or one of the leadership team are in attendance and will present a school topic. Recent Topics discussed include:
- Safeguarding
- Review of Y7 Transition
- Anti-bullying
- School Improvement Plan
- Post-16 Education
- Student Behaviour Policy
- Uniform Policy
The PTA are often privileged to be the first to hear about changes to school systems and their opinions are sought. At the meetings feedback will be received from latest fundraising events (but planning of such events is normally discussed at separate meetings).
Medication
If your child has a medical condition that requires medication to be kept in the First Aid medicine cabinet during school hours or overnight, please print the “Student Medication Parental Agreement” form from the school website, complete and send in to school with the medication. We will not hold any medication in school without a signed agreement.
You should also inform the school immediately if your child’s medication changes or is discontinued, or the dose or administration method changes.
Care Plans
If your child has a medical condition that requires an Individual Health Care Plan, or an existing care plan needs updating, please contact the first aid department.
Crutches/Wheelchairs/Arm Casts/Slings
If your child will be coming into school on crutches, in a wheelchair or has an arm cast/sling, please inform first aid at the earliest convenience. A risk assessment will need to be completed prior to your child’s return to school.
Following a Behaviour and Pastoral Review, we have decided that from September 2019, John Taylor High School will operate a horizontal pastoral structure. Please read this letter for full details of the changes. Please disregard the letter your son/daughter may have already given you. A hard copy of the letter below (printed on blue paper) will be handed out to pupils.
Please be advised that Year 12 Reports are due to be published on Go4Schools at the end of this week. These will include updated projected grades based on the outcomes of the Year 12 February Formal Assessment.
Thank you to all parents who logged onto the careers platform called Unifrog during the Yr 12 Apprenticeship and Higher Education evening. Students will have an additional tutorial session this week to really embed the full opportunities available to them on this platform. For those of you who attended the evening, you will remember that I suggested that students scanned copies of their GCSE certificates and uploaded them to their Locker area on Unifrog. Please encourage your son/daughter to do this. If you do not have access to scanning equipment then please ask your son/daughter to take this to Mrs Wiles in the Data Hub and she will be able to e-mail an electronic copy to the student.
On the link below is the letter provided on the Year 12 Apprenticeship and Higher Education evening. This includes the parent code that you will need to register and use the facility at home. I would strongly recommend all parents do this, in order to support your son/daughter decide on their Post 18 Pathway.
If you would like to provide any further feedback on the Year 12 Apprenticeship and Higher Education evening, please e-mail Mrs Spencer [email protected]
