*The NSPCC are currently working closely together with O2 to provide the most up to date and effective advice.
*O2 have a helpline which parents can call to ask advice on all aspects of parental controls on devices.
*A parent can go into any O2 store and ask them to help them to set parental controls on their child’s device and they will gladly do this for free.
*Primary schools can ask for an O2 advisor to come into school to complete a workshop with parents where they can bring their devices into school and ensure that the parental controls have been applied. O2 will do this for all types of devices (not just phones) including ipads and gaming machines such as playstations and Xboxes.
Please see the link below for further information.
We have a number of students with long overdue books from the LRC. If you could please encourage your child to check their bags and desks at home to see if they have any outstanding items from the LRC. They will have received several reminders in school about any overdue books. Thank you for your support.
We have launched our Summer Reading Challenge in school this week to encourage our students to continue reading over the holidays. Students are being challenged to read six books over the holiday, to write reviews on the Reading Cloud via the school website and enter our prize draw by 11th September. Details are below. It is important for your child to continue to read over the summer holidays and we allow students to borrow extra items over the break. If your child uses the public library they can also enter their Summer Reading Challenge, Mission YTF which is based around Space to celebrate 50 years of the first Moon Landing. Happy reading!

To support the present Year 10 prepare for their final year of GCSEs, there is a link below to some suggested revision guides and a list of the set texts.
2019_Study_Guides_Etc_Year_9_and_10.pdf
Whilst there is no expectation for students to purchase their own copy of the set texts, students will be able to make notes and annotate their own texts which will in turn support their revision.
Suggested revision guides are also on the link. The guides listed are suggestions only: students may find a study guide by a different publishing company more suitable to their learning style. When students search for the texts listed, other recommendations will appear on Amazon. Students need to make sure that the guide they order is for the AQA 9-1 GCSE.
In September, students will be studying the following units:
English Language Paper One and Two
English Literature - 'The Sign of Four'
English Literature: Unseen Poetry
English Literature: Power and Conflict
Year 9 will be starting their GCSEs after summer and the English Department would like to help students get organised for their English Language and Literature GCSE.
Summer Bridging Task for English
To encourage students to engage early with their studies, we have linked below a summer task for them to complete. Teachers will be explaining the task in full and a hard copy will be provided to all students.
Students will be expected to submit the completed tasks in the first week back after summer to their English teacher(s).

For students in Years 7, 8 and 9 we have access to the website Times Tables Rock Stars (https://ttrockstars.com/). This website helps improve students’ knowledge and rapid recall of their times tables, a key skill which applies to all areas of Maths and across other subjects. Some students have already used this in school, for others they will be given their log ins by their teachers before the summer. The website is intuitive and engaging and it is hoped that students who wish to do some fun Maths during the summer may want to have a go at the games and times table challenges on the website. There is also an app that can be downloaded that works on smart phones and tablets. Best of luck!
We have received a message from the School Age Immunisation Team – Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, to say that they are sending us consent packs for the HPV vaccine. Pupils are due to have the vaccination in September. The packs will be given to all current Y7 pupils before the end of this week. They apologise for the short timescale, but are asking for the completed consent forms to be returned to school by the last day of term, Friday 19th July. Thank you.
