Following each welcome talk, children and parents/carers will also be able to take a tour of the school to see some of the staff and pupils who will be showcasing all that our school has to offer. The school site will be open between 6:15pm and 9:00pm. Parking is available on site with additional parking in the main village car park.
To book tickets for these presentations, please visit our Eventbrite site: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/john-taylor-high-school-26999989121
We are an outstanding school where students make exceptional progress and are well prepared for the next stage of their lives.

Early Closure for Open Evening – Thursday 24th October. School will close at 1.10 pm
Friday 25th October is a normal school day.
The half term break is Monday, 28th October – Friday 1st November.
We are holding our Open Evening for parents of Year 6 children on Thursday 24th October – 6.30 pm-9.00 pm.
The school will close at 1.10 pm in order to provide time for staff to prepare rooms, displays and experiments. Bus companies have been notified and buses will be departing from school shortly after 1.10pm. At the end of lesson 4 all pupils catching buses should go straight to the bus queues.
Pupils receiving free school meals may, if they wish, get their food from the canteen, at morning break. A reminder will be in the daily pupil bulletin.
If your son or daughter has volunteered to help out on this evening, please ensure she/he has returned the appropriate permission slip (supplied by the teacher) and turns up in full school uniform. They should check with the teacher they are helping what times they are needed for.
You may find it useful to check the school website regularly for details of special events and consultations www.jths.co.uk

Emerade Autoinjector Alert
An Alert has been issued from the manufacturers of the Emerade Autoinjector pens.
Medicines Defect Information has been issued, (July 2019), in respect of the Emerade 150, 300 and 500mcg pre-filled adrenaline syringes. The information relates to a potential risk of Emerade Autoinjectors failing to deliver a dose of adrenaline from the syringe, due to a blockage of the needle.
The potential risk of non-delivery is estimated to be 2.3 in every 1,000 (one thousand) pens. However, if patients follow the existing advice to always carry 2 in-date pens with them, then that risk is reduced from 0.23% to 0.000529%. We are therefore advising all schools to ensure that any pupils in school who have a prescribed Emerade Autoinjector now have 2 pens available to use in school.
The window on the Emerade Autoinjector will show clear when the adrenaline is still in the pen. When the adrenaline has successfully been delivered, that window will show a colour. The colour of the window will be different with each strength of pen, and these are as follows:-
500mcg – BLUE
300mcg – GREEN
150mcg – YELLOW
There is a short video available to watch on the Emerade website – www.emerade-bausch.co.uk, which details how to check the window of the autoinjector, to be sure that the adrenaline has been administered.
Please see flyer below - from Gov.Uk in relation to this Alert.
The proofs for school photos have arrived in school this week. Your child should bring these home today. The photographers have informed us that they will be extending the free delivery option for a further week for orders placed. Orders are placed online and not through the school. Parents will need the unique reference number provided with the proofs to access the online orders. If you have any queries about photographs, please contact JS Photographers directly (01773 717984) https://www.jssp.co.uk/
For Y11 pupils who wish to order the Year group photo, please could they see the Upper School Office for the unique ordering code.
At John Taylor we have a very proud reputation for excellent behaviour of our pupils on the bus services to and from school. As a result, our relationships with the bus companies are strong. For some of our bus routes, pupils travel on public service buses run by Midland Classic. As these are public buses, they are frequently used by other members of the public. Our expectation of conduct on the buses is of the highest order for the safety of other passengers, drivers and other road users. I would like to ask parents to impress this message onto their children in order to maintain our excellent reputation in this respect. The school will actively work with the bus companies to address any behaviours that do not reflect appropriate conduct on buses.
In addition, bus passes and tickets bought are for specific services and children are required to travel on those services they are allocated to. JTHS staff will ensure that this happens at the end of the day but we would ask parents to ensure their children are travelling on their correct bus in the morning.
Our Lower School, Upper School and Sixth Form pages are now available on our website showing key staff working with students in different year groups. Our communication policy is to respond to parental enquiries within two working days. For general enquiries about your child, please make contact with the Head of Year. For subject specific enquiries please follow the link to the staffing page on our website where email addresses for each Curriculum Area Leader can be found. http://www.jths.co.uk/staffing
If you wish to meet with a member of staff, please make an appointment at a mutually convenient time.
Can we please remind parents that all year 12 student will be attending the UK University / Apprenticeship search fair on Friday 4th October at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Payment for the coach of £8.00 is due by Friday 27th September. Students have been sent a link by email to register and download their ticket which must be done in advance of the day. Please encourage students to do this. The ticket can be presented on a mobile phone or printed. The trip will depart at 8:30am (we would ask students to be on site before this) and will return to school by 3:30pm. Please refer to the letter for further details.
A reminder to parents to please to complete the web form if they wish to give permission for their son/daughter to take part in extra-curricular PE activities.
Thank you.

Further to the letter sent out recently, we would just like to confirm the date for the Easter 2020 trip to Iceland. Due to a lack of flights, the trip will now leave on Sunday 5th April and return on Thursday 9th April (it was originally 4-8 April).
Your child will receive a copy of the Home School Agreement during form time this week. Please take some time to read through this with your child and discuss the expectations outlined in this document. Pupils should return the signed copy to their form tutor. Thank you.
There is a meeting on Tuesday 1st October 7.30-8.45pm for any Y9 student who wishes to start the Bronze award. If they wish to do the award, they MUST attend this meeting and MUST bring a parent with them. Please enter the building through the sixth form entrance.
PE KIT: Students who cannot take part in PE need a written and signed note from a parent or guardian to excuse them. They will still be expected to change into their kit and will receive a PE strike if they do not bring this. If at any point a student forgets kit for PE and can change, they will be expected to borrow kit and will still receive a PE strike.
If they have a serious injury and they physically cannot change because of a cast/support for example, this should be detailed in the letter from home and therefore no PE kit strike will be issued.
Thank you. PE DEPARTMENT
