Keeping safe online
Mr Twynham has created another video that he has called 'Lockdown Challenge 2'. This includes a variety of different content, including a message from Mrs Cochrane!

Once again Mr Forden and Mr Thompson have recorded assemblies for you. They can be accessed on the links below:
Mrs Collier from the LRC has created a wonderful Padlet with lots of resources, activities, quizzes and sources of information that hopefully you will find helpful during the lockdown. If you have any suggestions for any useful items which could be added, then please contact her on [email protected]
Thank you to her colleague Sharon Corbally for the original padlet outline.

The Food Awards Company is the founder and organiser of Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year competition. It is the most prestigious food photography competition in the world. The final night was imagined as a magnificent reception at the Mall Galleries in London followed by five-day public exhibition.
Unfortunately, this year the exhibition had to be skipped and awards night was live streamed on Facebook and Youtube. We were told that 9000 photographs were submitted this year only from all over the world. Competition itself is split into categories that cover food itself, but it also covers global issues about and around food.
Category for Young photographers was split in three age groups and theme was free style as long as it involved food, so I went with a dark, crisp, clean, composition of mulled wine in cast iron skillet. It was taken on a late afternoon winter light inspired by the works of the great masters like Rembrandt.
The judge for the Young category is David Loftus a well-known name in the industry who is also a Chairman of the judging panel.
I took photography as a hobby 18 months ago when I got my first DSLR camera and my first lens. Photography had given my mom and I a unique opportunity to escape, walk, talk, bond and learn from each other. Photography is art but it is also physics and there is so much to learn that I am taking on this challenge happily.
I am beyond happy with this achievement and it is wind in my back to pursue it further and learn more and more.

In RS, Year 10 students have been focussing on Islamic beliefs and practices - in particular the 5 Pillars of Islam in detail as part of their GCSE course - one of which is Ramadan.
Ramadan began quite recently on 23rd April and a lot of our Muslim students and obviously Muslims around the world will have to be adapting their practices because of Covid 19.
The article and video clip below explain ways that Covid19 is having an impact on faith and how it is practised across the world.
The selection of work below is from the WOW! wall that the Art department create every week.
It includes submissions that some students have made to the Royal Academy's 'Young Artists' Summer Show'.
It shows what fantastic artists we have at John Taylor!
The Art department are setting a 'weekly challenge' to all of their students. These will be really good for any student interested in Art. Have a go!
Our English teachers have been so impressed with the quality of English work completed and shared. Here are some examples:
Rain, pittter patter on my window,
The sound of sweet sorrow.
It shall make some happy,
Yet for me, an umbrella I shall borrow.
Rain, pitter patter on my patio,
The tiles flooded in sadness,
Running into the gutters like tiny, little workers,
Inside of them must be madness.
Rain, pitter patter on my driveway,
It dances and leaps off the cars,
While the clouds growl above,
The rain’s melody goes on for notes and bars

A variety of different work from Music! The Music department have created the following presentation as a summary of some of the great work they have received:
Whilst of we have still been setting work for tutor period. In top of this, tutors have been setting extra tasks or receicing regular communicatoin from their students. This is a great way to keep in touch!
Hello Mrs Young,
I hope you are staying well. I had a nice Easter Holiday. We played board games and got in our daily run or walk with a Joe Wicks workout to start the day. My Mum made 20 drawstring bags for NHS medical staff to put their uniforms in and I made a bird feeder. I also completed all the April challenges with videos, pictures and writings and I am trying to figure out how to share those. I have transitioned back to home schooling well and have kept up with the work and have completed the tasks and tests. I have found that completing the lessons at the time I would usually do them and ticking of a lesson chart helps. I also sent lots of emails to teachers to share what I liked about the work and any ideas for improvement and to show them that I had actually completed the work. For history I also got a work hard award.
P.S. I also had a lot of football practice on the back garden!
Best Regards,
Nathaniel

When Year 11 embark on their A Level and Vocational studies they often worry about the demands of the specification content and ignore the new skills that they will need to apply to this. All Post 16 courses include time where students need to be independent and apply a range of study skills. Therefore, we have created a skills-based bridging course for students to complete before they focus on subject-specific content. All Year 11 students who are moving onto Level 3 studies should complete this work, as it will be relevant to any setting. The students will be set this work by their Tutors on Go4Schools and we have included the links and passwords below so that parents can also see what they have been asked to do or support their son/daughter if they have any technical problems.
Task 1: All students will be sent the following PPT for Yr 11 Transition Week 1. They should load this and click on the links when instructed to do so.
Task 2: The PPT directs students to view the following video. They will need to enter the password netsixth11 when required.
Year 11 students who have applied to Year 11 will be expected to evidence that this work has been completed. They have been advised to store all of their files in a folder called 'Passport to Year 12' (This could be a physical folder or electronic). Tutors will be checking this work during the Induction programme in July.
CAMHS have created a website for young people, carers and professionals to pool together lots of helpful resources from across the internet that are available to help support mental health and well-being.
