NSPCC Online Safety Hub
The NSPCC have made available a brand new online resource which will be useful for parents. Net Aware has partnered with Ambitious About Autism to bring online safety tips, advice and activities specifically for parents and carers of children with SEND.
You can find the online safety hub HERE.
We are fast approaching the end of the month of Ramadan and with it the celebration of Eid, please can we ask that any parents who intend for their children to remain off school to celebrate Eid notify us in advance.
Please email Mrs Keeling [email protected] (years 7-11) or Miss Spurrier [email protected] (6th Form) with the child’s name, year and form group. In your email state clearly that you intend for your child to be absent to celebrate Eid.
We know that there will not be a clear date for Eid until closer to the 12th May but once you know which day your child will not be attending again please email and keep us informed.
We hope to provide as little disruption to Eid celebrations as possible, however if you do not notify us in advance we will follow normal attendance and safeguarding procedures and will be contacting you regarding your child’s absence. If we are unable to contact you on the day this may result in your child absence being recorded as unauthorised.
PLAYERS REQUIRED – ALL AGE GROUPS
Dunstall Cricket Club, situated just outside Barton under Needwood, is one of the success stories of local sport. Its home ground, the Deer Park, is among the most picturesque in all of the UK, where visitors of all ages, abilities and backgrounds are assured of the warmest welcome.
For the past 25 years, the village club’s senior Saturday teams have competed among the elite of the Derbyshire County League. A thriving junior section, complemented by top-class facilities and a team of dedicated coaches, has ensured a clear pathway for generations of young players to fulfil their potential and ensure the club’s continued prosperity for many years to come.
For obvious reasons, 2020 was an extremely challenging one for amateur sports clubs, and at Dunstall it was no different. Coronavirus restrictions have enforced a very different method of operation, while most of our usual fund-raising streams were unavailable.
As we seek to bounce back from what was a difficult year for us all, we are on the lookout for new junior players across all of our age groups. We want to give local youngsters the chance to get active in a safe and inclusive environment, where their talents can be shaped and celebrated.
We run hardball teams at the under-11, under-13, under-15, under-17 and under-19s age groups, with a softball ‘Kwik cricket’ option for those aged 9 and under. This year, following its COVID-related postponement in 2020, the ECB’s Dynamos and All-Stars programmes will also resume, offering the perfect introduction for children new to the sport – you’ll find details of how to register for these online.
We have a full training programme ready to roll out as and when coronavirus restrictions permit.
Does your child want to get involved? If so, just email Dunstall CC junior co-ordinator Jamie Benstead on [email protected] to register your interest or raise any queries you may have. We’ll be happy to advise you on next steps and can’t wait to introduce you to our great sport.
We look forward to hearing from you!
With thanks and best wishes from all at Dunstall CC.
SEND Spring Termly Reports will be sent out on the 30th of April.

Dear Parent / Carer,
You will have received full instructions this week of how to book appointments for Parents' Evening on May 6th, along with instructions for how to access the video calls. Please be reminded that the booking system opens on Wednesday April 28th at 6pm. If you have any issues with the booking system, please email [email protected] for assistance.
Thank you.
Please can all leave of absence requests be addressed for the attention of Lynne Keeling- Attendance Officer. [email protected]
Requests for Leave of Absence should be made in advance of the required period of absence. This includes absence for Examinations (e.g. Music, Performing Arts), Sports Representation, Religious Festivals etc.
Please note that both of the upcoming Year 11 Maths assessments are CALCULATOR assessments. This is different from the student timetables that have been distributed which said that one was a non-calculator paper - we apologise for this error. Pupils will need a scientific calculator and standard Maths equipment for both assessments. Please note we cannot loan equipment out to students.
We recommend the Casio brand as most user friendly, these are available to purchase at the usual online retailers but also most main supermarkets. We advise that if pupils need a new calculator to purchase one outside of school in order to ensure that they have it in time, and can get used to it in advance of their assessments.
Year 11 Pupils have also been emailed about this.
Kind regards,
The Maths Department
Simon Curzon

NCS for Year 11 and 12
NCS: what is it all about?
Designed for 16–17-year-olds, NCS is an inclusive summer programme that helps teens get the skills, experience and self-belief they need to achieve their potential - and smash their future goals.
Founded on the principles of social cohesion, social engagement and social mobility, NCS aims to make a life-changing difference to young people and how they approach life after school (something that can be daunting for even the most confident teens).
In just a few weeks, they’ll mix with new people from different backgrounds, conquer big challenges, pick up some invaluable skills and get the confidence they need to live independently. They will even take part in a social action project to do good in their local community. It’s the perfect steppingstone into adult life – just ask the 600,000 young people who’ve taken part.
What is in it for young people?
NCS can make a huge difference to the lives of young people across the country and help set them up for their future. Here are some of the things they’ll benefit from…
Social mixing: Working with other young people from a variety of different backgrounds to make a change in their community.
Excellent evidence on a UCAS statement or a CV: NCS helps them prove their ability to go above and beyond and challenge themselves.
Aspirational opportunities: Students will experience success in different environments and realise their potential through pushing themselves to take on new challenges. They will also experience university life as part of their residential experience.
Community engagement: By delivering a Social Action Project, students will discover that they have the power to make a difference in their local community.
Membership to a graduate network: NCS provides access to apprenticeships and work experience at extremely prestigious companies, amongst other opportunities.
Skills development: The programme helps students pick up many of the ‘soft skills’ employers are looking for.
