On Monday 16th May our year 8 boys' football team played in the Staffordshire Schools County Cup final at Stafford Town FC against Blythe Bridge High School. Having already won the District Cup Final, we were confident that we should have a good chance in what would prove to be a close match.
In the first half, John Taylor dominated the opposition, putting pressure on in all areas of the pitch with particular dominance from Oli and Lucas in defence as well as Dylan and Archie in midfield. We created a number of really good chances but were unable to convert any of them. The whole team worked to well together with incredible energy levels. Our Goalkeeper Will only touched the ball once or twice. Unfortunately, we failed to score and at half time the score was 0-0.
The second half was a different story with Blythe Bridge coming back into the game and dominating possession. As in the first half with us, they missed some really good chances and could have taken the lead. Half way through the half, Lucas decided to go on an individual run, beating a number of players before chipping the ball over the goalkeeper's head to give John Taylor a 1-0 lead. Blythe Bridge continued to press and eventually equalised with a great header from a cross following a corner. The game continued with chances for both teams and Mr Blanchenot was already working out who would be taking penalties when our captain Oli decided enough was enough. He picked up the ball just inside the opposition's half and proceeded to dribble past players wide into the penalty area before clipping a superb finish high into the far side of the net. The whole team ran to the corner to celebrate what would prove to be the winning goal with less that a minute left on the clock.
The whole team should be congratulated on their fantastic performance in this final and throughout the season. They work well together and always display our school values in abundance. They are a credit to themselves and we are very proud of them.
In my first term and a half worth of art lessons I have been learning about multiple cultures and different types of art and design that have been passed down from generation to generation.
We have been looking at amazing topics such as ‘shields’ that had been made in Papua New Guinea by rural tribes. We made miniature shields from cardboard and watercolour paint.
Using the Day of the Dead from Mexican culture as our inspiration – the Mount Hagen Festival and El Dia de Los Muertos, we prepared then embossed thin tin to make them into Melagros, Mexican lucky charms. More recently, also used in Indian culture.
Personally, I cannot pick out my favourite topic. I have really enjoyed them all, creating artwork which people have been doing for thousands of years has been so interesting and a wonderful experience. I feel so lucky to be living in a world so rich in culture and diversity, it is completely amazing.

Special Consideration 2022
As we start this year’s external exams, we thought it would be useful to confirm what JCQ’s ‘Special Consideration’ procedures are. Special consideration is given to a candidate who has temporarily experienced illness, injury or some other event outside of their control at the time of an exam
There are two categories of special consideration:
- Candidate is present for the examination but disadvantaged.
- Candidate is absent from the exam for an acceptable reason.
In light of Covid, JCQ have adjusted their guidance somewhat this year as UKHSA advice is still that those children testing positive for Covid should stay at home and avoid contact with others for 3 days. If a student is staying at home, in line with UKHSA guidance, at the time of an exam, this is classed as an acceptable reason. In this situation, please ensure that you inform the school of the absence, including the reason why, i.e. Covid. Our Exams Manager will then contact you with Form 14 – JCQ/ME – Self-certification for candidates who have missed an examination which must be completed and signed by both the parent and candidate in order for the school to apply for special consideration on your behalf.
It is important to note that in order to be awarded a grade, each candidate must have completed the examinations/assessments for at least one whole component within the specification. A qualification award will not be made where none of the examinations/assessments within a specification have been completed.
JCQ have produced a ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ documents for the Special Consideration procedures in 2022 which gives more details. It can be viewed on this link.

Please can you remind your son/daughter to remember to sign in and out, using the iPad system in the sixth form reception area. This is particularly important as the summer exam series commences and it will ensure that we have accurate evacuation registers in line with our safeguarding procedures. Thank you for your ongoing support.
