Community Afternoon Tea at John Taylor on Wednesday 15th November 2023.
The local retired community of Barton attended an afternoon of entertainment recently in the school hall. This event is a legacy of the 2012 Olympic Games where we have held a termly afternoon tea for the retired folk of Barton Under Needwood
The sporting young Ambassadors entertained the visitors, played table tennis, chess and curling through out the afternoon.
Refreshments had been provided by the staff at John Taylor and the folks enjoyed a chat, cup of tea and cakes through out the afternoon. This was served by year 12 Health and Social students.
Local Primary Year 6 pupils also attended and joined in with the various activities on offer. They were an absolute credit to their Primary schools, mixing well will all concerned and joining the various activities.
John Taylor Art department made bookmarks designed by a Year 9 Young sporting Ambassador as gifts for the folk to take home. Two pianists accompanied the visitors through out the afternoon and three year 8 pupils sang “Somewhere over the rainbow” which brought the house down.
Here is a quote sent into school by a member of the local community who came for the first time to the Community tea.
“Many older people, myself included live on our own and it is very welcome to meet up with others in a social situation for a chat in a lovely relaxed atmosphere and of course enjoy the tea and cakes.
I look forward to the next one.”

As we begin to see the weather turning colder, please can we ask you to ensure students are dressed appropriately for the weather and you are aware and support the following points from the Uniform Policy and Guidance:
- Students are encouraged to wear a coat during the cold weather - the school jacket/blazer must be worn underneath coats when in school and coats should not act as a replacement to the school jacket/blazer.
- As the evenings become darker much sooner please consider how visible coats are when students are walking home/alighting buses.
- Students are welcome to wear smart boots rather than shoes during Autumn 2 and Spring 1 half terms (Oct-Feb) but these must be worn under school trousers and not with the school skirt.
- Jumpers worn under the school jacket/blazer should be knitted, V neck grey. Any other style of jumper is not permitted.
We are extremely proud of our school uniform and the sense of belonging it gives to our student community. Thank you for your ongoing support.
The JTHS Uniform Policy and Procedure is available on the school website:
The Children’s Commissioner for England, Dame Rachel de Souza, has launched The Big Ambition, a national survey of children and young people across England aged between 6 and 18 years old.
The Big Ambition aims to hear from children across England on what they think is important! In the lead up to the next General Election, the Children’s Commissioner wants to take children’s thoughts, opinions and ideas to decision-makers, to make sure that the Government hears young people’s voices on what they think needs to be done to make children’s lives better in England.
The Big Ambition survey will be open until Friday 15th December.
Further information can be found on the following weblink and attached leaflet:
