This week’s Hot Chocolate with the Head was a delight for Mrs Cochrane, who celebrated the achievements of pupils involved in the JTMAT Subject Excellence Programme, an initiative that Mrs Cochrane leads for all Secondary Schools in the JTMAT.
Mrs Craddock, Faculty Director for English at John Taylor High School, facilitated the task for the students and nominated them for Hot Chocolate with the Head. The task was to create a news report based on an event happening in school or in the local area. Mrs Craddock was really impressed with level of literacy skills and journalistic passion that came across during the task.
The students shared the themes of their news reports with the group. These included; petition for the lollipop-man, reporting the house matches, the Y8 trip to the Think Tank, promoting Coniston in the Lake District and reporting the Year 7 Outward Bounds Trip. Mrs Cochrane agreed with the group that these ideas were really interesting and exciting which are key components when creating an engaging news report.
At the end of the celebration, Mrs Cochrane presented the students with a certificate and was thrilled to learn that Jacob and Noah’s news report on House Matches had been given the Silver Accreditation.

Primary Dodgeball Event
Mrs Berry and her team of Sporting Young Ambassadors were delighted to be joined on Wednesday 12th June for the Year 4 dodgeball event, which saw over 50 primary school pupils compete against each other.
The primary pupils listened carefully to all the instructions and were full of energy which was great to see. There was a high-level of skill and determination throughout the matches. Well done to all those taking part and to our Sporting Young Ambassadors for setting excellent examples of leadership and organisation.
Mrs Berry, PE & SSCO said ‘I am extremely proud of our Sporting Young Ambassador students who showed respect and kindness to the primary school pupils and led with integrity. The primary pupils had a wonderful time in a competitive but friendly environment. Thank you to those for making the event such a success’.
Congratulations to Thomas Russell Junior School for winning the tournament and well done to The Mosely Acadmey, Needwood Primary School and Shobnall Primary School for their fantastic effort and participation!
Mrs Tremble would like to congratulate Jacob Harman and Sophie Knight for their excellent articles this term. Inspired by their class novel, Mrs Tremble's Year 7s were tasked with writing about child refugees in a journalistic style which would be published here in our Weekly Newsletter for our website.
Both Jacob and Sophie really got to grips with the task and produced pieces of work that were engaging, informative, concise, interesting and credible; which are all factors that make a fantastic journalistic articles.
Well done to you both!
