Message from the Sixth Form Team

Two weeks have passed since students experienced school closure and perhaps some new routines are beginning to settle in. Although it’s sad that school ended the way it did across the nation (and almost everywhere, overseas, too), the priority is keeping safe, staying at home and protecting the NHS, so it can cope with the numbers requiring treatment.

We are still waiting for further guidance from the Government and exam boards about what data they require to 'calculate' your A Level and BTEC grades. Please do not contact your subject teachers directly about projected grades.

Please make sure that you check in with your Tutor at least once per week by replying to their e-mail and let them how you are getting on. Remember, that this is also new to teachers, therefore, if you are struggling, let them know.

It has been fantastic to hear how some students have started to prepare for their undergraduate studies with some pre-reading and other students have taken this time to really explore different pathways available to them. For virtual Work Experience visit www.insidesherpa.com.

Whilst it is important to ensure that you complete your A Level and BTEC studies, it is also necessary to take some time for yourself. Please read the articles in this newsletter and accept Mrs Sharp's challenge.

Happy Easter from the Sixth Form Team!

Apprenticeship support

Free one to one coaching for students who are applying for Apprenticeships

John Taylor High School has worked with a company called ‘Young Professionals’ for the past few years and they have offered our students the opportunity to receive online one-to-one coaching on the application process. This will involve an hour spent with an expert in this field over a Zoom / Skype call.

Content:

  • Online Digital Interviews
  • Applications to work experience and apprenticeship opportunities
  • Mock psychometric testing
  • Assessment centre preparations

The Young Professionals company represent many big companies including; PwC, EY, IBM, Capgemini, Lloyds Bank, Travis Perkins and many others!

All students have access to Office 365, therefore, they will be able to download Skype or use Zoom for this. Please direct them to the Office 365 home page.

To book please email Dan Miller at [email protected] with a date and time so that he can issue students with an appointment. Please can you ask students to also add [email protected] as a CC so that the sixth form team can monitor the use of this service.

Other resources to support Apprenticeship applications:

www.unifrog.co.uk - Remember you can search apprenticeship opportunities across the UK as well as visit the 'How to' library for support on applications and interview preparations.
